Western Digital or WD, and SanDisk Corporation, the global leader in flash memory storage solutions, announced that the two companies collaborated to introduce a hybrid storage device featuring the best in its class flash memory technology from SanDisk and best in class hard drives from WD.
SanDisk SanDisk supplying storage devices iSSD ™ for Solid State Hybrid Drive (SSHD) WD Black ™, a solution of 2.5 inches SSDH the world's smallest, which utilizes hybrid technology exclusive WD SATA IO technology and industry standards. SanDisk iSSD brings an elegant balance of performance, low power consumption, cost, reliability, and a compact form factor for this SSHD, which will offer plenty of storage to meet the increasing consumer demand for digital content and speed made possible by the flash, data throughput and response - all in an ultra-thin form factor.
"I'm glad SanDisk cooperate with WD in exciting new hybrid products," said Kevin Conley, senior vice president and general manager of client SanDisk storage solutions. "By combining the expertise of the flash memory SanDisk unparalleled technology with versatile hard drive from WD, the WD Black SSHDs offering capacity as the leading hard drive, and a slim form factor and the level of performance that you only find in the flash memory solutions."
With the volume of the device is a major concern for PC manufacturers who want to design a sleek device, WD Black SSHD is designed to accommodate the integration into the thinnest notebook market. WD Black 5mm SSHD offers a capacity of 500 GB, with 50 percent less volume than a standard notebook hard drive current (about 9,5mm). Solid state drives are low profile hybrid is equipped with a SanDisk iSSD which has a very small form factor that is built on a 19 nanometer process technology (nm), the smallest semiconductor manufacturing process and the most advanced in the world.
